Abstract

This research investigates the challenges encountered by culturally diverse students in higher education, with particular emphasis on their academic adjustment, social integration, and perceptions of multicultural education. A quantitative methodology was employed to gather data from 130 foreign female students at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) using a self-administered questionnaire. The findings indicate that language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and difficulties adapting to teaching methodologies pose significant challenges for these students. Furthermore, challenges related to social integration, including feelings of isolation and difficulty in establishing connections with peers, were also observed. The study underscores the critical role of institutional support, particularly in areas such as faculty training on cultural sensitivity, language assistance, and mental health services. The results advocate that universities implement more inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogical practices and strengthen support systems to foster an environment conducive to both academic achievement and social well-being for culturally diverse students.
