Call for Papers for a Special Issue on the 50th anniversary of Currere

Where are we now? With what are we occupied? Who is the “we”? The sphere of the social and the primacy of politics cannot be comprehended if such ongoing questions of subjectivity are cast aside. It is the intimacy of their interrelation that renders subjectivity an urgent issue facing humanity, as subjectivity is the space we occupy.

William Pinar (2006) “Subjective Reconstruction and the Rehabilitation of Habit” in TPC, 3d ed, pp. 194-5

Currere is a reflective cycle in which thought bends back upon itself and thus recovers its volition.

Madeleine Grumet (2006), “Psychoanalytic Foundations” in TPC, 3d ed, p. 170

Currere and Praxis is inviting submissions to a special issue marking the 50th anniversary of currere (Guest Editor: Teresa Strong-Wilson, Associate Editor, Currere and Praxis), coinciding with the 4th reprinting of Pinar and Grumet’s (1976) Toward a Poor Curriculum (TPC).

The special issue is open to any manuscript on the subject of currere and praxis.

Manuscripts are encouraged (but not required) to engage with writings of Pinar and/or Grumet, including from their seminal TPC work. Interdisciplinary approaches also welcome.

Manuscript guidelines can be found on the journal's website.

Manuscripts for this special issue to be submitted by December 31, 2025.
